Apple and U2 want to spark an unforgettable fire in the music industry with yet another collaborative project — one they hope will help artists sell more albums and singles by making the music experience more digitally immersive.
Although Time magazine reported Thursday that the tech giant and the veteran rock band are conjuring up a "new digital music format," that's not as dramatic as it sounds.
Apple declined to comment, but a source with insider knowledge about the project told Mashable the word "format" is very confusing — it won't be as dramatic as MP3s replacing physical CDs. Instead, it's a "creative thing" in which Apple will be "adding additional creative capabilities" and "iTunes files are not going away."
